Media Center
It is my sincere desire to operate the Media Center so that it will be a valuable teaching tool. I am here to provide services and help in any way I can. So... to avoid disappointments and misunderstandings, please communicate your needs to me. I hope you will use the Media Center effectively and often. Mrs. Anita Buers, the library teacher, will be on campus Wednesdays & Thursdays to be of service to us. The Media Center will be open from 7:30 until 3:30. The Media Center will devote the first three weeks of school to train the staff and for student orientation. The last two weeks of school are used for inventory and to complete records. The Media Center is not open at lunch time. Students free time will not be accommodated in the Media Center. Each student who comes to the Media Center during class time should have previously made arrangements through the teacher, have a properly filled out pass and a specific assignment. When the student leaves the Media Center, time will be noted and the pass initialed. Teachers are welcome to bring their classes to the Media Center for research, reference or to find a book. Because of the limited space, only one class can be accommodated at a time. Please make reservations for your class visit by signing up on the calendar on the Media Center office door. Teachers must accompany their class to the Media Center and remain with them. A quiet atmosphere is desirable at all times and teachers are responsible for the conduct of the class. If you're planning a research project or specific library assignment, advance notice will allow me time to be better prepared to give the student maximum help. There is a limited number of books available on specific topics; reserving ahead will better help meet the needs. Accelerated reader books are marked and students may take tests on books they read at any time. It is the teacher's responsibility to instruct students on how to use the AR program, but the library staff can assist until you and your students are familiar. The due date for all library books checked out to students will be two weeks from date of book check-out. Overdue notices will be sent to your classroom on Mondays. Overdue books will cost 10 cents per day. Please remember that teacher books must also be checked out. If at any time you need specific material or a special title, please let me help you. If you find our library short of some subjects you need, please inform me and I will give a list to Mrs. Buers for future purchase considerations. All 7th grade English classes will be scheduled for orientation and instruction in the Media Center. As textbooks are becoming increasingly more expensive, student awareness of their responsibility is my chief goal again this year. Please help with these few steps:
When a student transfers from your class, please keep the text- book. The new teacher will issue a new book. Keep your inventory intact as much as possible. When a student loses a textbook, it is the teachers' responsibility to initiate a charge slip (forms available in the Media Center). Charge slips must have the full title of the book and the number. Please do not issue a duplicate book until the original book has been paid for. The teacher is to retain the yellow copy of the charge slip, if the student finds the textbook, so note on the yellow slip and send to the Media Center. Please inform students of their responsibilities and the fact that report cards, grades and promotion can be held up if charges are not cleared each quarter. In the case of STUDENT DROP SLIPS, please include the book title and number of books not turned in by the departing student. This information to be put in the Remarks Column. TEXTBOOK CHECK-OUT CARD may be attached to the drop if the book has not been returned. It is the responsibility of the Media Center to keep the equipment in the workroom working (paper, chemicals for equip., etc.). It is not the responsibility of the library to run material for the teachers on the Xerox, although I would be happy to run a few in an emergency. A few more steps to follow:
Video machines and televisions are available in the Media Center. Advance arrangements must be made for their use. Blank tapes are available in the district ware house catalog. Some video taped programs are available in the Media Center. Library books, video programs and media software may be checked out through the check-out desk. Note: If you check out a video or book, please check it back in with the Library after use. Don't just pass it to the next teacher who wants it! If you do --- at the end of the year, any video or book check-out card with your name on it will cause you to be charged $10.00 for each video and the current price of each book that is missing. Student T.A.'s may use the SCANTRON located in the Workroom after being properly instructed by their teacher. The Media Center does not provide this service. After proper instruction, please send only one student at a time to use this equipment with a properly filled out hall pass. District Media requests will be handled on the computer located in the Media Center office. When ordering films you may use the same INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA REQUEST form or simply list the films you wish including Media Order No., date of desired delivery, and correct title of film. These can usually be entered into the computer immediately and you have an immediate confirmation. The earliest they can be delivered is two days after ordering. Thanks to those of you who have read this far. I'm here to be of service to you. Let me help you in any way I can. Here's to a really great year. |
